Indie game- A Rite from the Stars Kickstarter campaign (With Playable Demo)

About A Rite from the Stars

A Rite from the stars concept art A Rite from the stars is an Independant point and click adventure game developed by Risin’ Goat, a small group of developers located in Mostoles, Spain. So far A Rite from the stars Kickstarter campaign has been going on since early August, but as of the time of this article they have only received about 30% of their goal with 13 days remaining before the end of the campaign. I did not find out about the game until one of the game designers contacted me in email and asked me to take a look at it, and after reading a bit of the Kickstarter page I was more than happy to help spread the word. A Rite from the stars is currently planned to be released for the WiiU, Windows, Ubuntu, Mac, Linux, and Ouya platforms.

Gameplay
A Rite from the stars concept art The story follows Kirm, a young boy from the Makoa tribe. His goal is to pass a rite of passage by completing three tests- one of wisdom, one of courage, and one of spirit. The three paths are all unique with their own puzzles and challenges, but the player has the choice in which test they want to take first and in which order the tasks are completed. For each task that you take on you will be guided by a mentor- The Chief for Wisdom, the Hunter for courage, and the Shamon for spirit. Based on the game trailer that was released, A Rite from the stars has simplified game mechanics so that players can jump right in to playing. The developers said that you won’t have to do pixel hunting, pointless walks, and you won’t even need an inventory. Instead the game focuses on special gameplay features such as multiple endings and a performance based achievement system that rewards you by how fast and effective you solve the puzzles- so the better you are at the challenges, the greater the reward.

The developers said that classic games like Broken Sword and The Cave inspired them to make A Rite from the stars and were a heavy influence to its gameplay. I have played A Rite from the stars and can confirm that it is indeed a classic style point and click puzzle game. They have a playable demo on the kickstarter page and I downloaded it to see what the game was like. I found the puzzles both entertaining and challenging ( I was only able to complete the trial of wisdom though), but it was indeed very fun to play. A Rite from the stars reminds me a lot of the old PS2 game “Tak and the power of juju”. You can get a decent look at the game by visiting the kickstarter page and reading about it for more details. And make sure to also check out their Steam Greenlight page and their Soundcloud page to listen to the official soundtrack.
